Background
Background
Founded in 1952, American United Federal Credit Union is a $390 million cooperative serving 24,000 members with a dozen branches throughout Utah and California.
The cooperative’s mission—“Help When Others Won’t”—reflects its commitment to serving members who often face barriers to traditional banking, including veterans, Native Americans, and other underserved communities.
American United went live on the Blossom You digital banking platform in May 2025.
Challenges
Challenges
American United Federal Credit Union sought to upgrade its digital banking solution to one that was flexible, reliable, and fully capable of meeting its members’ evolving needs and expectations.
“Over time, the relationship with our former digital banking vendor became increasingly transactional,” says Jacob Bowman, President and CEO at American United. As the company grew and went public, we saw rising costs, slower responsiveness, and less influence over the product roadmap. The platform functioned, but it wasn’t evolving with our members’ expectations or our strategic goals.”
According to Bowman, the Credit Union’s prior system lacked agility and offered only the most basic features. When members experienced service issues, internal staff had limited troubleshooting capabilities and had to rely on clumsy workarounds and manual processes to deliver basic service.
“The turning point came when we realized our digital experience had become a liability—it wasn’t representing who we were as an organization,” Bowman says. “We needed a partner who would listen, collaborate, and evolve at the pace our members expected.”

- The solution
To meet the evolving needs of its members, American United Federal Credit Union sought a mobile-first experience that worked intuitively for its members, delivered through a platform that offered deep integration between the core and digital channels.
The Credit Union also desired a true partnership with an innovative, cost-effective provider that offered both transparency and collaboration.
To meet these requirements, American United decided to invest in Blossom, a flexible, responsive digital banking platform with seamless, fully online account opening and loan application capabilities.
“Blossom stood out because of its model: we weren’t just buying a product, we were investing in an ecosystem,” Bowman says. “As owners, we’d have a voice, visibility, and the ability to help shape the direction of both our core and digital banking systems. That level of partnership was something we never had with our prior vendor.”American United Credit Union currently uses the following Blossom products:
Blossom has provided the flexibility we need to scale and experiment … the foundation supports both growth and integration with future partners.
